NOLA
This amazing city of enchantment engulfed me the moment I got into the the taxi cab and entered the French Quarter. The best way to describe how I feel in this city, would be to use the word,“charmed”. New Orleans is many things to many people, but for me, it’s charming and expresses a spirit, a joy for living that is expressed throughout the city.
Getting lost around the French Quarter is a photographers dream, you never know what you will run into...Each neighborhood in New Orleans has a different personality, and to truly experience the city, you need to see them all.
Mardi Gras is always happening in NOLA and is no different in April. Bourbon Street is world famous for its nightlife and is the perfect starting point for a girls’ night out. But if you know where to look, Bourbon Street is also home to historic bars, jazz and burlesque clubs.
VooDoo is alive and well in New Orleans...It consists of various African magical beliefs and rites that have become mixed with Catholic elements. It began with the arrival of slaves in the New World, most of them from the western, “Slave Coast” area of Africa, notably from Dahomey, now Benin, and Nigeria.
Here is a mini lesson on how to eat crawfish. They taught us to separate the tail from the body then eat the meat in the tail. You then suck out some of the flavor from the body and try to see if there's any meat in the claw. It's pretty much the same mechanics as eating a lobster, but the obvious difference is that crawfish are much smaller, so going through a whole plate of them takes some effort. You could be a lazy crawfish eater like me – and have someone do this for you....and keep in mind, this is not a meal to pick if you're in a rush.
Finally there is never a shortage of things to photograph in New Orleans...get lost in the streets (only in the daytime) and you will be amazed with the photographs that can be produced...
